Who we are

Parrhesia News is operated by PARRHESIA NEWS MEDIA PRODUCTION LTD, company number 16808862, registered in England and Wales at 201 Ashburton Avenue, Ilford, England, IG3 9EN. We are the data controller for the personal data described here.

Information we collect

• Newsletter sign-ups: email address, optional name and region, newsletter preferences, the consent wording shown, consent time, sign-up source, a hashed IP address, an unsubscribe/preferences token, and delivery status.
• Accounts and engagement: account identifiers and email address, saved articles, likes, subscription status, article views, referral information, and a security/session identifier derived from technical data. Search terms and result context may also be stored with a hashed session identifier to improve search and detect abuse.
• Payments: Stripe processes card and billing details for Privacy Pass. We receive subscription identifiers, status, billing-period dates, and cancellation state, not full payment-card numbers. Donations may be processed by Buy Me a Coffee under its own privacy terms.
• Messages and submissions: contact details and the information you choose to send to the newsroom.
• Cookies and similar technologies: see our Cookie Policy for the names, purposes, and choices for local storage and cookies.

Why we use information

We use personal data to provide accounts and paid services, deliver newsletters where you have consented, remember permitted preferences, keep the site secure, prevent fraud and abuse, understand readership, respond to messages, comply with law, and maintain accurate editorial records. Our legal bases are consent, performance of a contract, legal obligation, and legitimate interests in operating a secure publication and responding to readers. You can withdraw consent at any time; this does not affect earlier processing.

Who we share it with

We use carefully selected providers including Supabase for hosting, database and authentication; Brevo for newsletter delivery; Stripe for payments; Buy Me a Coffee for donations; and an AI gateway for limited editorial tooling such as tag suggestions and fact-check assistance. Editorial tooling receives newsroom content needed for that task and should not be used to send it personal contact details or confidential source information. We may disclose information to professional advisers, regulators, courts, law enforcement, or another provider when legally required or necessary to protect people and the service. We do not sell or rent personal data.

Some providers may process data outside the UK. Where that happens, we use an adequacy decision or other lawful transfer safeguard. Contact us if you want more information about the safeguard used for a particular provider.

Retention

We keep information only for as long as needed for the purpose collected, including reasonable periods for security, accounting, legal claims, and suppression of unwanted marketing. Newsletter records are retained while subscribed and may be kept in a suppression list after unsubscribe so we do not contact you again. Account, payment, complaint, and editorial records may be retained for the period required by law or needed to establish or defend a claim.

Your rights

Subject to legal exceptions, you may ask us to access, correct, delete, or restrict your personal data; object to processing, including direct marketing; receive portable data; or withdraw consent. Email privacy@parrhesianews.co.uk. You can unsubscribe using the link in every newsletter. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.

We do not make decisions with legal or similarly significant effects based solely on automated processing, and we do not require profiling for access to ordinary editorial content.

Security, children, and changes

We use access controls, provider safeguards, and technical measures appropriate to the risk, but no online service can guarantee absolute security. This publication is not directed at children. We may update this policy when our processing changes; the latest version and its date will be published here.
